History of Saint Joseph Secondary School Emene
St. Joseph Secondary School, Emene was born on the 3rd of September, 2001. It is a daughter school of St. Mary’s Nursery/Primary School, Emene. It was named after St. Joseph the husband of Mary, mother of God because it was St. Joseph parish emene that established the school under the Catholic mission schools. It Started from JS1 with a total number of 140 students with a good number of pupils from St. Mary’s Nursery/Primary School, Emene.
Rev. Fr. Ignatius Emefo was the parish priest of St. Joseph Parish the Administrator. he was assisted by Rev. Fr. Gozie Nnebedum at the inception of this School. They gave their maximum support and encouragement in the growth of the school.
Rev. Sr. Rose Mary Anamezie of the Daughters of Divine love congregation was the first principal and late Chief Romanus Ezeoba as the Vice Principal. These Three individuals formed the governing board of the school.
In the year 2007, Rev. Fr. Humphrey Ani became the Parish Priest of St. Joseph parish emene and was assisted by Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie when the school took a new turn by the formation of the school management board headed by Barrister Sir Alex Oko, Sir Enu Anthony as the secretary, Mrs .C.C. Membrim and Sir Ekwenife. Rev Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie became the bursar of the two schools owned by the parish, the Nursery/Primary and Secondary schools as agreed by the board. The schools were given a new name as St. Joseph group of Schools.
The then principal of St. Joseph Secondary school was late Chief
Romanus Ezeoba and Nwafor Anthonia C. (Mrs.) the Vice Principal
Administration.
During this tenure, the school management Board thought it wise to build
a dometry block for the girls in the school. The parents’ Teachers
Association (P.T.A) in agreement with the school members of the board
erected a two storey dormitory block for the girls as proposed.
The order of administrators of the school till date Include:
- Rev. Fr. Emefo Assisted by Rev. Fr. Chigozie Nnebedum (2001 – 2007)
- Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuche (2007 – 2012)
- Rev. Fr. Stanley Ikeche (2012 – 2015)
- Rev. Fr.Ozoani Collins (2015 – 2016)
- Rev. Fr. Ozokeke Bartholomew (2016 – 2018)
- Rev.Fr. Aneke Marcellinus/ Admin (2018 – till date)
Rev. Fr. Barth Ozokeke assumed office on 5/10/2016 and initiated a lot of innovations in the school. The Following landmark achievements have already been made under the leadership of Rev. Fr.Barth Ozokeke:
- Exposure of the students to societal activities such as visitation to Television and Radio Houses in order to showcase their talents and abilities to the public.
- Formation of subject clubs to expose the students to wider knowledge and pragmatic understanding of their subjects.
- Creation of website for the school. This important ICT tool which has hitherto eluded the school has now been established, courtesy of Rev. Fr.Bartholomew Ozokeke.
- Industrial photocopy machine
- Fortification of the Dormitory block. On his assumption of duties, Rev. Fr.Bartholomew Ozokeke noticed that the two storied dormitory block under construction was at the verge of collapsing . He quickly swung into action and fortified the building with pillars and the building now stands firm.
- Production of school magazine: The school has never thought of producing a magazine until now.
Since the change of the school from parish established school to Diocesan school, it has been a citadel of learning academic/social activities. The school has grown from strength to strength and has acquired more academic development over the years. As we thank God for his blessing these years, we pray and look forward to more explosive growth in the years ahead . Amen
After Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Ozokeke’s tenure, Rev. Fr. Marcellinus Aneke assumed office as the present Administrator of St. Joseph Secondary School Emene.
Fr. Aneke M. was the formal vice principal, teaching and learning and Dean of Discipline at College of Immaculate Conception (C.I.C) uwani Enugu. having gained administrative experience for seven years and six months, he has become a season educationist. the school has since his resuming of office been put into eternal positive flux. A lot of changes has happened ranging from discipline to structure changes and many more rebranding is under way.
